U.S. Steel keeps investing in Birmingham

US Steel is pumping $475 million into its tubular operations Fairfield, Ala., where it makes product for the oil and gas industry. The company is installing a new quench and tempering line and will add capacity for heat-treated products. The expansion includes a new training center and enhanced employee areas. Six years ago the plant began operations of its advanced $412 million electric arc furnace, which gave the plant the ability to produce 1.6 million tons of steel a year. The plant opened in 1901, and during World War II, it housed 45,000 workers. 

 

Italian automotive leather manufacturer announces first U.S. facility in Auburn, Ala. 

Vulcaflex S.p.A, an Italian manufacturer of synthetic leathers used in the automotive industry, is opening its first U.S. facility in Auburn. The $70 million plant will house 130 workers. 

 

South Korean automotive supplier to build first U.S. plant in Auburn, Ala. 

Kamtec announced in June it will open its first U.S. plant in Auburn. The company will make components for engine control and electric management in hybrid vehicles there. The $9.2 million investment will create 50 new jobs. 

 

Lockheed Martin opens new Alabama facility

Lockheed Martin has opened its new Missile Assembly Building 5 in Courtland, Ala. The plant will produce the Next Generation Interceptor (NGI) for the Missile Defense Agency. The missiles are part of the Golden Dome for America. Lockheed also operates a large missile factory in Troy, Ala. 

 

California-based A.I. company to bring data center to Shelby County, Ala. 

DigiPower X has entered into an agreement with Cerebras Systems for a 40-megawatt data center in Columbiana, Ala. 

 

ARKANSAS

 

Hybar raises $1.1 billion to expand its Osceola facility

Hybar announced it has raised $1.1 billion to expand its advanced sustainable scrap metal recycling steel rebar mini mill in Mississippi County, Ark. In June, Hybar broke ground on a project that will double its rebar production capacity there on the Mississippi River. The company has achieved positive cash flow in just the fourth month of operations of its existing facility. The expansion will include adding a second steel rebar mini mill that will become operational within two years and will enable the company to produce approximately 1.3 million tons of rebar annually, representing more than 10 percent of the U.S. market. 

 

Lexicon completes renovated HQ in Little Rock

Little Rock-based Lexicon invested over $37 million at its headquarters at the Port of Little Rock. The company is a major national construction management and steel fabrication company employing over 3,000 people.

 

FLORIDA

 

Johnson & Johnson announces $1 billion expansion of its Vision division in Jacksonville, Fla. 

Johnson & Johnson announced in June a $1 billion expansion of its Vision manufacturing facilities in Jacksonville. The deal will include a new distribution center alongside advanced manufacturing and packaging technologies to add capacity for its ACUVUE brand contact lenses. The announcement is part of the company’s $55 billion commitment to U.S. investment and manufacturing by 2029. 

 

Blue Origin considering purchasing a large balloon manufacturing structure at Space Coast Regional Airport

Blue Origin, which is building all sorts of things related to space launch on Florida’s Space Coast, is considering purchasing the 700-foot-long former balloon plant used by the defunct Space Perspective tourism company. The former occupant of the building once had 140 workers to craft enormous balloons to lift passengers 100,000 feet above the Earth inside pressurized “space lounge” capsules. The company flopped as the cost for a six-hour journey was $125,000 per person. 

 

Talks move forward on new $2.3 billion Tampa Bay Rays stadium in Tampa  

Hillsborough County commissioners voted to continue negotiations with the Tampa Bay Rays on funding for a new ballpark on the Hillsborough Community College campus. Construction of the new ballpark is pegged at $2.3 billion and the 113-acre location is near the New York Yankees spring training facility and the Tampa Bay Bucs’ Raymond James Stadium. The Rays also said they have begun a contractor search for the facility. This all happened in late June when Gov. Ron DeSantis came to town to express his support for the project. 

 

Charles Schwab expanding in Maitland, Fla. 

Financial services giant Charles Schwab is growing its office footprint in the Orlando suburb of Maitland. The company has increased space and parking at the Summit Park for the last two years and now employs more than 1,200 at its campus. 

 

GEORGIA

 

Lockheed Martin celebrates 75 years in Marietta, Ga., announces 1,200 new jobs 

In the summer quarter, Lockheed Martin and its 5,600 employees celebrated its 75^th year of continuous operations right outside of Atlanta. The plane manufacturer announced an expansion of 1,200 jobs at the massive, 8-million-square-foot plant. There, Lockheed produces the C-130J and the F-35 Lightning II. Since 2019, the company has increased its workforce there by 25 percent.

Rayonier signs lease for new HQ in Atlanta

Rayonier, a major timberland real estate investment trust and Georgia’s largest landowner, has signed a lease for its new headquarters in the heart of Buckhead. The company now owns 4.2 million acres of timberland across 11 states – 3.2 million acres in the South. 

 

Firearms manufacturer investing in new Georgia plant

Rideout Arsenal, a firearms designer and manufacturer, is investing $22 million in a new manufacturing facility in Thomasville, Ga., creating 120 new jobs over the next several years. Rideout Arsenal specializes in high-performance, high-end competition pistols.

 

New HQ set for Cobb County

Authority Brands, a portfolio of well-known home-service brands spanning residential cleaning, plumbing, HVAC, electrical and senior care, will establish its new headquarters -- known as the Franchisee Success Center -- in Cobb County, creating 390 new jobs and investing $13 million over the next several years. 

 

ArcelorMittal Building Solutions to establish North American HQ in Macon-Bibb County

ArcelorMittal Building Solutions will establish its North American headquarters and a new manufacturing facility in Macon-Bibb County. The initial investment will bring roughly $57 million and up to 70 new jobs to the community, with plans for an additional $50 million in investment and as many as 70 more jobs over the next several years.

 

KENTUCKY

 

Ford targets another billion-dollar-plus investment at Louisville truck plant

The Ford Kentucky Truck Plant’s rumored $2 billion expansion is one step closer to reality. Gov. Andy Beshear confirmed the proposed expansion with some details. The $2 billion expansion would be built on 70 acres of land adjacent to the existing plant that assembles the Ford Super Duty, the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator models. That plant already houses roughly 9,000 workers. Ford has been in Louisville since Model Ts rolled off the assembly line in 1913. The company also operates a smaller vehicle plant in Louisville that makes Ford SUVs. 

 

Space Tango expanding in Lexington

Space Tango, a nationally recognized leader in commercial space infrastructure and mission operations, will expand its Lexington operation with a $7.4 million investment, creating 25 quality jobs. The new facility will include dedicated mission operations space, laboratories, biological laboratories, electrical laboratories, machine shops, testing laboratories, engineering offices, collaboration areas and supporting employee amenities. 

 

Wholesaler sets up Louisville operation

Abastos Wholesale is setting up a distribution center in Louisville. The $10.3 million deal will create 20 new jobs. 

 

LOUISIANA

 

Central Louisiana captures $3.6 billion Applied Digital’s A.I. factory campus

Applied Digital Corporation announced plans to develop a $3.6 billion, state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (A.I.) factory campus in Rapides Parish. Known as Delta Forge 1, the facility is purpose-built for large-scale A.I. training and inference workloads, marking a major milestone in Central Louisiana’s economic growth and digital infrastructure expansion. The big project is expected to create 200 full-time jobs and over 1,000 construction jobs. 

 

Electric components manufacturer to create 200 jobs in Northeast Louisiana

Faith Technologies announced it will invest $80.5 million in a new electric components plant in Ouachita Parish, La. The company will hire 200 in the deal. The 500,000-square-foot facility is the company’s first Louisiana facility and will use modular methods to produce electric assemblies for the clean energy industry. 

 

Sustainable energy tech company picks West Monroe and Houma, La. 

NovaSpark Energy, a sustainable energy technology company, announced it is growing its workforce in West Monroe and investing $30 million to establish a new facility in Houma. The expansion will scale production of its atmospheric hydrogen generators used in defense and energy applications to meet increasing national demand for diverse energy solutions. The two deals will create 300 jobs. 

 

Maritime drone vessel manufacturer expanding in Louisiana

Gulf Coast Tactical announced it will invest $6.1 million in Iberia Parish to expand production of unmanned surface vehicles, patrol craft and other maritime platforms used in security operations, reinforcing Louisiana’s growing role in America’s defense economy. The project is expected to create 137 new jobs in the Acadiana Region.

 

Sawmill being modernized in Northwest Louisiana

C&C Forest Products announced it is investing over $21 million to rebuild its Coushatta sawmill following a 2025 fire, repositioning the facility as a more efficient, cost-competitive specialty lumber and timber operation. The deal will create 77 new jobs.

NORTH CAROLINA

 

Startup JetZero breaks ground on massive aircraft plant in Greensboro, N.C.

California-based JetZero officially broke ground on its $4.7 billion plant at the Piedmont Triad International Airport in late June. JetZero is developing a blended-wing passenger jet airliner called the Z4, which can seat up to 250 passengers. The futuristic design will enable airliners to be 30 percent more aerodynamic than the typical airliner today. The company expects to have 8,000 workers by 2027, and eventually over 14,000 to build the new airliners. 

 

Data center slated for rural county in the Research Triangle

PointOne Data Centers and CyrusOne plan on a new data center in Lee County, N.C. The $900 million center will include 40 jobs. 

 

Mattress manufacturer to plant flag in Rockingham County, N.C.

Talalay Global has selected Reidsville, N.C., for a new manufacturing operation. The $27 million deal will create 52 jobs. 

 

Nonwoven product maker picks Lexington, N.C. 

Supreme Nonwoven is taking a manufacturing operation to Davidson County, N.C. The company serves customers in apparel, automotive and filtration. The $25.8 million project will create 50 new jobs. 

 

Capital Electric opens distribution center in southwest Charlotte

The 258,000-square-foot distribution center is expected to house 100 workers. 

 

Soft drink maker to hire 100 near Charlotte

Cheerwine, a North Carolina product semi-legend, is expanding in Rowan County. The $7 million project will create 100 new jobs. 

 

OKLAHOMA

 

McKesson selects Moore, Okla. 

McKesson Corporation, U.S.-based a Fortune 100 company that serves as a logistical and operational backbone of the healthcare system to help ensure patients can access medicines, has selected Moore, Okla., as the location for a highly automated regional distribution facility. The deal will create over 200 jobs. 

 

Big refinery breaks ground in Oklahoma

The first U.S. refining investment in decades, according to the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, has broken ground in Duncan-Stephens County. Green Fuels Operating’s $400 million refinery will be located at the site of a former refining complex dating back to the 1920s, bringing clean-engineered fuel production, career-level jobs and long-term economic investment to Stephens County. 

 

SOUTH CAROLINA

 

$1.5 billion Swiss biopharmaceutical plant planned for Rock Hill, S.C.

Octapharma, a bio firm that uses plasma to create medicines to treat a range of diseases, immune disorders and critically ill patients, is investing $1.5 billion in York County, just south of Charlotte. The company will hire 1,200 workers and will relocate 300 from Charlotte to make it one of York County’s biggest deals ever.

 

USA Rare Earth to invest $1.2 billion in South Carolina

USA Rare Earth, a global leader in rare earths, critical minerals and advanced materials, announced it has selected Cherokee County for its first South Carolina operation. The total investment for the project is approximately $1.2 billion, and will create about 490 new jobs in the state. The new facility, which will be located at Bailey Park in Blacksburg, will produce neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) permanent magnets and refined rare earth metals. With operations in Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as a planned acquisition of a major rare earth mine in Brazil, USA Rare Earth is building a global rare earth and permanent magnet value chain to serve advanced manufacturing for both commercial and defense technologies supporting the U.S. and its allies.

 

Energy infrastructure manufacturer announces plant in Oconee County, S.C. 

Mosdorfer, a manufacturer of energy infrastructure, announced its selection of Oconee County for its first U.S. operation. The company’s $44.55 million investment will create 107 new jobs. Mosdorfer is headquartered in Weiz, Austria, where it was founded over 300 years ago in 1712. A forging company since its founding, Mosdorfer started designing and manufacturing hardware for high voltage transmission lines in 1949. 

 

Peptide manufacturer expands in Aiken County, S.C. 

AmbioPharm, a peptide manufacturer and developer, announced it is expanding its operations in Aiken County. The company’s $118 million investment will create 202 new jobs. 

 

Copper manufacturer to open first plant in Charleston County

Red Metals, a next-generation copper manufacturer, announced it is establishing its first copper manufacturing operation in Charleston County. The company’s $70 million investment is expected to create at least 45 new jobs.

 

Novant Health plans $300 million media campus in Rock Hill, S.C.

Novant is building a new $300 million healthcare facility in Rock Hill, S.C., part of the Charlotte metro. The life sciences facility will house 255 workers. 

 

TENNESSEE

 

WHOA! Google to pay SpaceX $920 million a month to access compute capacity from Memphis’ Colossus facility

Google will reportedly pay $920 million a month to access A.I. compute capacity from the two SpaceX sites in Memphis. The deal includes access to Nvidia’s GPUs, memory and other related components. In another announcement, SpaceX just announced a $300 million expansion of said plant in late June. 

 

Pennsylvania-based metals manufacturer announces deal in Maury County, Tenn.

Hygrade Components will invest over $1.6 million and create about 35 jobs in Mount Pleasant, Tenn. The deal is an expansion of its plant there, where it currently employs 100. The company makes metal components for windows and doors. 

 

Manufacturer lands in rural Tennessee

Homeland Vinyl will create 50 new jobs in Hawkins County. The $5.5 million plant expansion will produce vinyl fencing, decking and railing.  

 

TEXAS

 

Huge Morgan Stanley deal is Dallas

Dallas lawmakers signed off on an incentive deal on June 24th for a new $1.3 billion Morgan Stanley office tower encompassing 708,000 square feet. In the interim, the company will lease space nearby while the new office skyscraper is being built. The financial services giant will relocate nearly 5,000 jobs to Dallas from Manhattan. It is another banking coup for North Texas, which bills itself as “Y’all Street.” Dallas-Fort Worth has captured some huge relocation deals in the past, including Toyota’s North American headquarters from California and way back, American Airlines, among many others. 

 

Samsung is relocating its U.S. HQ from New Jersey to Plano, Texas 

Samsung Electronics America will relocate its U.S. headquarters from Englewood Cliffs, N.J., to Plano by the end of this year. About 1,000 workers in New Jersey will choose to follow the company to Plano or lose their jobs. Samsung has operated a large computer chip plant in Austin, and its newest semiconductor facility is expected to be operational later this year. That $37 billion chip plant is nearing completion near Austin in Taylor, Texas. 

 

Elon Musk’s SpaceX campus in Bastrop County could be 11 million square feet

A new SpaceX campus (that will make lots of things) is being planned for the East Austin market of Bastrop. Called “Gigasat,” plans are for 11 million square feet, or 1 million more square feet than Musk’s Tesla factory near the Austin airport. The plant is expected to produce solar products, like ingots and wafers, and build data centers that are expected to be sent to space by the end of 2027. So, satellites will be built there, too. 

 

San Antonio set to land three massive 5,220-megawatt data center campuses

San Antonio is set to land massive 5,220-megawatt data center campuses at three locations on 3,500 acres of land in the region. Tract Capital, a data center developer backed by Berkshire Partners, is pursuing a “horizontal powered land strategy” for master-planned data center campuses. One site is 255 acres in Medina County and another is 1,515 acres in Caldwell County. The third location has not yet been chosen. 

 

Blue Energy seeks incentives to build $6.4 billion hybrid power plant in Victoria, Texas

Blue Energy has applied for Texas incentives to build a $6.24 billion power plant near Victoria, Texas. The company would combine natural gas turbines and small modular nuclear reactors to scale faster than a nuclear-only plant. 

 

Quantum Global Technologies adding 287 jobs in Austin

Quantum Global Technologies, a servicer of semiconductor equipment, is investing $43 million in Austin. The tooling computer service firm will add 287 jobs. Several chip facilities are expanding in the Austin region, and Samsung is about to open its $37 billion chip plant in nearby Taylor, Texas. 

 

NRG Energy has fired up its expansion near Houston; first new power plant in nearly a decade

NRG Energy has started its T.H. Wharton Generating Station in Northwest Houston. The gas unit plant marks the company’s first new power plant in about a decade. 

 

Toyo Solar is locating a solar cell manufacturing facility in Houston metro

Toyo Solar is locating a $357 million solar cell facility in Houston. The plant will house about 400 workers. 

 

Rohm opens major chemical plant in Bay City, Texas

A German chemical company has opened one of the largest methyl methacrylate plants in the U.S. Methyl methacrylate is used as the primary binder to manufacture acrylic plastics and shatter-resistant glass, such as Plexiglas The $1.6 million Bay City plant was delayed during COVID. 

 

SEG Solar announces third solar module plant in Houston

SEG Solar is building a new 4.6-gigawatt facility in the Houston metro. The 1.1 million-square-foot plant will include the factory and a large warehouse. 

 

NASA improves, expands Houston’s Johnson Space Center

NASA is sprucing up its Johnson Space Center with infrastructure improvements to the tune of $300 million. The renovations include astronaut crew training, engineering development and mission readiness. 

 

Davie Defense has broken ground on $1 billion shipbuilding facilities

Davie Defense has started a $1 billion modernization of the Gulf Copper shipbuilding facilities in Galveston and Port Arthur, Texas. The deal marks the return of complex shipbuilding to Texas for the first time in decades. The modernization is tied to a $3.5 billion U.S. Coast Guard contract awarded to Davie Defense for five 328-foot Artic Security Cutters. Three of those will be built at the Gulf Copper shipyards. The project is expected to result in 2,400 direct jobs at the two shipyards.

 

Celestica announces huge deal in Richardson, Texas

In one of the largest announcements so far this year, Celestica will invest $300 million and add 2,300 new permanent positions in just two years at its facilities in the Dallas-Fort Worth suburb of Richardson, Texas. The deal also retains 400 existing jobs. Celestica is a global leader in data center infrastructure and advanced technology solutions. The new space will top the 1 million-square-foot mark for the company in Richardson. 

 

$3.2 billion shipyard proposed for Brownsville-Cameron County, Texas

Cameron County and Port of Brownsville officials just approved incentives for one of the largest shipyards ever to be built on the Gulf of Mexico. The shipyard would build A.I.-driven drone boats for defense and commercial markets. The $3.2 billion project could generate 10,000 construction jobs and 10,000 permanent jobs if approved and financed. 

 

Taipei-based tech manufacturer announces expansion in Katy, Texas

Inventec is adding a third phase at its Katy-area site with an estimated cost of $48 million. The company tests and assembles computer chip servers. The expansion is part of an effort to ultimately reach employment at the complex of over 2,000 jobs.

 

Tesla plants to start battery production at Houston area megafactory this year

Tesla’s megapack battery factory that is going up in Brookshire, Texas is expected to open this year to produce 50 GWh of energy storage annually. That is more than the company’s California and China plants combined. The factory is expected to house 1,500 workers by 2028.  

 

Chip plant expansion set for Sherman, Texas

Coherent Corp. is significantly increasing its factory footprint in Sherman, according to SEDCO.org. Sherman has a significant wafer production cluster. The Pennsylvania Company will invest $650 million to quadruple wafer production capacity at its facility that is supporting the demand for A.I., which continues to skyrocket. 

 

Apollo Global Management appears to have chosen Austin over Palm Beach, Miami and Nashville

While nothing is signed as of the end of June, financial services giant Apollo appears to have chosen Austin, Texas for its second headquarters. If the New York-based company does choose Austin, it will have its pick of class A office space downtown as the area has a 24.5 percent office space vacancy rate. The second headquarters is expected to house new hires for the company, which currently has about 4,000 employees. 

 

A.I. automotive startup to move HQ to Austin

Partly, a company that builds artificial intelligence for the auto repair industry, is relocating its headquarters to Austin from New Zealand. The company, which has clients like Toyota and Hyundai, is expected to hire hundreds of workers. 

 

New data center slated for Bastrop County, Texas

Virginia-based EdgeConneX is locating a $440 million, two-story data center in the Cedar Creek area. It is the first of four buildings that will ultimately be a $1.4 billion investment. The site is on about 130 acres and will create hundreds of construction jobs. 

 

Battery manufacturer building new HQ and manufacturing center in Katy, Texas

TerraFlow Energy is building a new battery plant and headquarters in the Houston market of Katy. The company will build batteries that can power about 10,000 homes for one hour and have a life of 10 hours. 

 

VIRGINIA

 

Changes in the works for Amazon’s HQ2 in Northern Virginia

The board of Arlington County, Va., met in June to discuss Amazon’s plans for its latest HQ2 building. This is the second phase of the massive project in Pentagon City, which has been on hold since 2023, and now has an extension until June 30, 2028. The original HQ2 proposal submitted to Arlington County included about 3.3 million square feet across four buildings. About 8,500 are working at HQ2 today, and the job count for Amazon is slated to be 25,000 by 2038.

 

Rural King investing $40 million in Henry County, Va. 

Rural King, a national retail brand specializing in farm and home supplies, will invest $40 million to establish a new distribution facility in Henry County. Upon completion, Rural King expects to create 150 new jobs for Virginians at the facility. As part of the investment, Rural King acquired an existing 500,000-square-foot warehouse facility at the Patriot Centre Industrial Park that was previously vacated by VF Corporation in 2025. The site selection aligns with broader efforts by Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s administration and the Commonwealth to leverage existing business-ready sites across Virginia and to drive business investment to every community.

 

Swedish investment firm to build U.S. headquarters in Prince William County, Va. 

Sandberg Development, a Swedish investment company, plans to build its headquarters at Prince William County’s Innovation Park. The $43 million project will create over 40 jobs. 

 

Austrian company to establish HQ in Virginia

RINGANA, an Austrian life sciences company known for skincare and nutritional products, will invest $85 million over the next five years to establish the company’s first U.S. headquarters, production and distribution facility in the City of Roanoke, creating 435 new jobs across the region.

 

“To infinity and beyond!” Scout Space expands in Fairfax County

Scout Space, a technology company specializing in systems and software deployed on satellites, will invest more than $1 million to expand the company’s operations in Fairfax County, with a plan to create 31 new jobs in the Commonwealth.

 

Solar startup plants flag in Shenandoah County

MSolar, a Virginia-based startup specializing in the production of premium-grade solar panels, will invest just over $23 million to establish a vertically integrated solar manufacturing facility in Shenandoah County. The 56,000-square-foot facility in Mount Jackson will produce high-efficiency solar modules designed for large-scale energy projects, creating 150 new jobs in the region.

 

Nice deal in Arlington, Va. 

Spatial Front, a privately held information technologies firm, will relocate its corporate headquarters to Arlington, creating 450 new jobs in Virginia through a $6 million investment. Founded in 2008 and previously headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Spatial Front provides mission critical IT and professional services primarily to U.S. federal agencies with core capabilities in geospatial technologies, AI and machine learning, systems integration, digital modernization, cloud services, and IT operations and maintenance.
